About This Degree

Surgical Technology is an exciting and challenging allied health career. As critical members of the surgical team, surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, which they combine with knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instrumentation and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

The demand for Certified Surgical Technologists continues to grow. Employment opportunities are found in a variety of medical settings such as operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, central supply, labor and delivery areas, cardiac catheterization laboratories, private physician offices, and other settings where invasive procedures are performed.

State Licensure/Certification Information

Vincennes University offers a two-year Associate of Science Degree in Surgical Technology. Graduates who wish to continue their education are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Science Degree options at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) as recommended by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST) and recognized by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).
